Am I going to the Outdoors Show this weekend?
I've been to the Outdoors Show several times in a professional capacity. And, personally I've been to lots of shows of various descriptions. Here's my thoughts on the matter:
- Go if you have a plan, like, I want to collect 200 emails for our database, or, I want to make some partnerships with suppliers.
- Don't go if you don't like shuffling speed. I can't do 'museum' speed. I find it exhausting. I've done a few mountain marathons now but i find it more tiring shuffling along in a large crowd for a couple of hours.
- Go if you need to be seen there for your brand. Land Rover always have a massive stand at the Outdoors Show. I bet they don't sell any but for their brand they have to be there.
- Don't go if you don't have any money to spend. I always think I'm going to get a bargain but rarely do. And, if I do get a bargain that will be cancelled out by the amount of money spent on food.
- Go if you love collecting leaflets. You can see the professional leaflet collectors going around scooping them into their bags. Do they read them all?
- Don't go if you don't know who your target audience is or what you want them to do.
- Go if you can get free tickets as that overrides most 'Don'ts'
- Don't go if you have small children. Add all those original 'Don'ts' up and then add tired children into the mix. Shudder.
- Go if you have free gifts or a prize draw to offer.
- Don't go if you could barely afford the exhibition space let alone a quality exhibition to fill it. And laminated A4 sheets do not qualify as a 'quality exhibition'.
As always, professionally, shows are a tool or channel to market. If you know your audience and what you want them to do, have the appropriate support in place then go and enjoy. Personally I shan't be going this weekend as I shall be in the outdoors this weekend.
If you'd like to go here's the link.
