Live Web Streaming of Events
Viper Case Study
The Brief
Viper has been experimenting with live broadcasting, webcasting and online conferencing for the last two years.
To effectively broadcast video and audio through a robust technology requires a great deal of experience and know-how.
On the evening of 22 July 2010 ViperMusic was proud to deliver a live and virtual simultaneous broadcast of Miss Skarlet's Sally-Anne Langton over the web through Second Life.
This is the story of how it happened.
The Solution
Viper is working with musician and promoter Kizzy Morrell and DJ Alf Niven to create an online platform to deliver live streamed performances for both music and training.
Kizzy has spent the last two years creating a sound studio and night club called Klubb Paradise, in 3D virtual world Second Life and supported by her partner DJ Alf Niven they have created a cutting-edge digital stage for music and education. A key area, and one of the most technologically advanced in Klubb Paradise is the Viper Suite which contains recording studio and a conference and training centre.
The beauty of online broadcast is that it's accessible from anywhere in the world and in the first broadcast of its kind journalists, Second Life devotees, family, friends and VIPs enjoyed a 30 minute acoustic set from Miss Skarlet's Sally-Anne Langton as she played songs from their debut album This Beautiful Lie.
A barrier to the general public adopting performances through the likes of Second Life is that they are often perceived as complicated and frightening. With this in mind the team opened up the video and audio streams allowing fans to watch the live performance through the likes of Facebook.
Neil Wilkins from ViperMusic said, "We are constantly looking for ways of making our artists' music more accessible and believe we've found a way that their fans can get really close to their idols and the music they love. For us, online broadcast will open up a host of new ways of each fan getting a unique an intimate music experience and of course for the artist they get to hear first hand what their fans like and want to hear more of."
The Result
Perfect synchronisation of audio in time with video, the topping and tailing of live gigs and the fan chatroom experience after a gig are just some of the things the team are now working on to improve the Viper offer.
In the meantime we are delighted to have proven the concept, tested the technology and opened up a wide range of new opportunities for running live online training sessions and more music gigs through the web.
