ViperMusic Sponsored Charity Event for FUZE’s Launch Night at Joe Public’s
Well, here's my first blog for Viper (better late than never)! As you can see in my biography I help out with various parts of Viper and support Jim and Neil's roles as well. One part of my role is to help with the co-ordination and organising of various gigs for ViperMusic and, last Sunday (31st Jan) we were asked to sponsor the FUZE Launch Night at Joe Public's and, hold the acoustic room for our artists. This was such a great opportunity, and so we did it!
FUZE is organised by a committee of students from Bristol University and University of the West of England. It is a charity event filled with dancers and fashion shows which aims to raise a staggering £10,000 for charity. The event comprises of mixing theatrical and street-dance acts with, stunning fashion. This year's event is being held at the British Empire and Commonwealth Museum on February 18 and 19 at 7.30pm. Fuze hopes to raise funds for chosen charities, including Hope and Homes for Children, The Children's Liver Disease Foundation and the Bristol Centre for Sustainable Energy.
Sunday night was in aid of the charity event, and to start raising awareness of the FUZE event later this month with a Launch Party. After all the preparations over the last couple of weeks for this, we had arranged three of our artists to play at the gig to do an acoustic set. Each of the artists played a few covers and a selection of their own songs. We all arrived at the venue for 8pm to set up and check that the main room music (mainstream electro) was not going to interact too much with where we hoped to set up. The doors opened at 9pm and a few people started to make their way in but, due to sound concerns, and speakers that weren't meant to be on in the venue, were - always the way. Anyway we set up in one of the side areas which worked so much better with the seating around the outside and the artists strumming and singing away up front with such an intimate gig feel. It was like a live lounge.
First to play was Rob Phillips, a very talented, superb solo artist singing a variety of mellow tunes with the crowd singing along to the songs they new. As more people arrived in to the venue, more and more people crowded into the room with the acoustic set which gave a great atmosphere to the gig. In the background you could slightly hear the main room music but, it didn't interfere with what ViperMusic were doing. Next up was Mark Venus who helps ViperMusic with the management side of our artists. He started off with his rendition of Ain't no Sunshine, absolute classic song to start and more people drifted in as his act went on, which included a duet for Bob Marley's No woman, No Cry which was super. Following this act was, Izzy Finbow who's not part of Viper but, was playing to support the event with her folk take on covers and, her own songs. Then, the act which most of the crowd were waiting for, Miss Skarlet's lead and vocalist, Sally-Anne Langton. She did a brilliant set starting with Michelle Branch's All I Wanted and included a bit of Justin Timberlake and a selection of her own songs, sung with Miss Skarlet. The night finished just after midnight for the Acoustic set but, the event went on until the early hours of the morning with over 400 people turning up, the launch night was a success with raising money for charity as well. I'm looking forward to the main FUZE event on the 18th and 19th February.
