Are You A Twitter Qwitter?

Viper Case Study

The Brief

Every year NHS Bristol helps thousands of people to stop smoking through highly effective 12 week sessions in locations around the city.

Seeking to broaden the reach and awareness of the service NHS Bristol decided to test the power of social media to focus the message and create true engagement with smokers, their familes and their friends.

Four smokers selected from applicants living across the city use Twitter as the central hub for a campaign called Twitter Qwitter to enage family, friends and work colleagues to help them give up, at the same time as creating an archive of their quitting journey for the benefit and support of others attempting the same.

The Solution

By linking traditional media in the form of support and coverage from the Bristol Evening Post with online social media including website, FaceBook and Twitter, awareness increases participation which in turn enhances the eventual outcomes.

A smartphone app and QR code (scan the bar code style image to the right with your smartphone to automatically link to the Twitter Qwitter page) ensure there are multiple points at which to engage with the campaign.

The Result

Using digital media and social networking at the core of the campaign ensures that every activity and tool is ultimately measurable, to prove both the success of the campaign from a marketing perspective but also to demonstrate the most appropriate method for delivering reduction in the number of smokers in the city.
