Three is the Smallest Prime Number in Social Networking

Mathematics tells us that the smallest prime number is two as a natural number greater than 1 that has no positive divisors other than 1 and itself.

In social media though this isn’t usually quite enough and the magic number is 3.

The first in the mix is the customer or your target audience. These are your prime consideration. Different messages for different customer segments or personas and of course ensuring you are active in the social networks where they are already active, rather than trying to drag them kicking and screaming into a network simply because it suits you.

The second is you. It’s very likely that to make social media an effective marketing tool you have to fully commit yourself. When I say commit I mean time and energy. This time and energy to enable you to think and plan the most effective strategic approach as well as great content using a balance of Personal information, Pointing to third party good stuff, and Promotion of your products and services, in equal measure. See, there’s that magic number 3 again.

The third are the others who can help you achieve your social networking goals. With the pressures on your own time and bandwidth it’s unlikely you can do it all by yourself so remember to call on others to help spread the load. Think colleagues and others in the organisation as well as agencies or copywriters.

Three is a prime number for both the content rule of thirds and importantly the three types of individual who will make your social networking fly.
